So, Jacob Collier, this young chap is certainly no stranger to the world of music. He’s been recording and producing music on digital audio work stations since the age of 7 years old and it’s probably highly likely that he’s an actual genius. No, that's not right, I mean, he definitely is an actual genius, and I know that there are millions of people out there who think so too.
His Tape Notes interview might as well have actually cracked my skull open and fried my brain... medium rare.
Listening to him speak about his music and his ideas and just his perspective on creativity and the world... never cease to move me in some way. He's annoyingly good and annoyingly insightful.
I find it quite difficult to comprehend and digest. What does someone like Jacob Collier strive for next? Where does he actually GO from here? If you haven't listened to any of his music then you should definitely go and do that right now... just so you know what I mean.
Who gets emailed by Quincy Jones with an offer to produce his first record, but politely turns it down? Jacob Collier. And if you think that's nuts... what about your debut gig being at the Montreux Jazz Festival, opening for Herbie Hancock?
Nuff said.
Here’s the link to the Tape Notes interview I mentioned. Make sure you wear a helmet.
